Alex Thomas

Black Belt
2nd Dan

Alex Thomas started judo lessons under the direction of Sensei Ruth Goldman Black Belt 5th Dan. He was aged six.

It was a family affair for Alex as he was joined by his two brothers on junior classes. His father Jim took to the senior mat. Alex progressed through the junior ranks to become a junior black belt. Moving into the senior ranks aged sixteen, he has progressed to achieve his Black Belt 2nd Dan.

Separately, Sensei Ruth and UB President John Goldman, invited Alex onto the UBA teaching training programme. This is a seven year programme.

Alex firstly took the role of classroom helper. Two years later he became an assistant tutor in training and in 2014 Alex was awarded his Tutor Award.

At the same time as judo training Alex has developed skills in the Korean art of Taekwondo. Here he holds the rank of Black Belt 2nd Dan.

Alex runs the UBA's Tiverton Judo Centre. As with all tutors Alex is fully qualified, insured, DBS checked and holds a First Aid at Work certificate.
